We can do direct upgrade by installing targer version and refreshing Target DB data from Source DB Provided you are aware what all tables are required to upgrade

the existing volumes/Archives you lift from source and attach to Target directly since you use Azure or any other cloud

The apprach prefectly works but its not mentioned in there standard documents. We had implemented successfully for couple of customers, This also works for cluster environment
