Is there any other way to get to the product download or documentation, other than using the new support portal? I found it, very time consuming and very slow, just to get to the right item.

I never go to KC unless I need to search. I find using system center - catalog to get software download and documentation. Mostly these are correctly tagged. I just had one or two instances where the link did not work correctly or did not give me correct download.

Might I suggest you open 22 version and change the url to reflect latest version
